Copperfield Flue Liner Replacement Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Copperfield Flue Liner Replacement: The Columbia Owner’s Guide

We stock and install replacement flue liners compatible with Copperfield systems in Columbia, with most jobs running $1,800 to $3,400 installed depending on height, diameter, and whether the chase top needs removal. Our crews carry the common Copperfield diameters - 6-inch, 7-inch, and 8-inch round in both rigid and flexible configurations - and we can usually inspect, measure, and schedule the swap within a single visit. Columbia homeowners typically discover the problem during their first fire of the season, when smoke backs into the room or a neighbor mentions a smell they can’t locate.

Which Copperfield Models This Applies To

Copperfield has produced chimney liner components under several product lines over the years, and the label location matters. Check the chase top, the termination cap, or the original installation paperwork for a model prefix: CMF (flexible stainless), CMR (rigid sections), or the older CFI insulated series common in Kings Contrivance and Hickory Ridge builds from the 1980s and 1990s. The diameter is stamped on the collar of the top plate or the first section above the smoke chamber.

We do not need the original paperwork to match the part. Russell Haines or one of our technicians will run a camera to confirm the exact diameter, check for ovalized sections that no longer seat properly, and measure the full run from appliance collar to termination. For Copperfield specifically, we prefer OEM-compatible flexible 316Ti stainless from the same supply chain rather than generic import liners, because the wall thickness and corrugation pitch must mate with existing Copperfield top plates and adapters. Aftermarket equivalents exist, but a mismatch on the termination collar or an undersized flex section will cost more in labor to correct than the part savings.

Signs Your Copperfield Flue Liner Replacement Is Failing

  • Smoke or odor in the living space during use. A separated liner joint, corrosion pinhole, or collapsed flex section breaks the sealed flue path. Combustion gases exit through the gap and find their way downstairs through framing cavities or the cleanout door.
  • White or orange staining on exterior masonry below the roofline. This is condensed flue gas leaking through a breach in the liner and migrating through the mortar joints. In Columbia’s freeze-thaw cycles, that moisture accelerates brick spalling above the flashing.
  • Chunks of clay or metal flakes in the firebox or cleanout. Older Copperfield systems were often retrofitted into unlined masonry chimneys. When the stainless liner itself corrodes through or separates from the top plate, debris from the original clay thimble falls into view.
  • Draft that worked fine last season now requires an open window. A liner that has shifted, ovalized, or partially collapsed reduces the cross-sectional area. The appliance cannot establish enough negative pressure to pull combustion air through the firebox.
  • Water in the firebox after rain, even with a cap in place. The Copperfield top plate or termination adapter seals against the liner with a compression fit. If the liner has dropped even an inch, that seal opens and water runs down the annular space.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Scope Typical Range in Columbia
Flexible liner replacement, single-story straight run (6″-8″) $1,800 - $2,600
Flexible liner replacement, two-story or offset chimney $2,400 - $3,400
Rigid section replacement with chase top removal $2,200 - $3,200
Insulated wrap (required for some gas appliance warranties) Add $400 - $600

What drives the range: height of the chimney, whether we must remove a chase cover or work around a steep-pitch Columbia roof, and whether the existing top plate and adapter are reusable. Our estimate includes the liner, new connectors, a Level-2 camera inspection before and after, and disposal of the old material. The number we agree to upfront is the number on the invoice. Every liner replacement carries our 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing - if it drafts wrong or leaks, we come back, no paperwork, no arguing.

DIY or Call Us?

A homeowner can safely check the termination cap for visible damage and confirm the damper opens fully. Beyond that, flue liner replacement involves working at height on a roof, handling sharp stainless edges, and properly sizing combustion air for the appliance below. An improperly seated liner or a gap at the top plate creates a carbon monoxide path into the house. We have seen DIY installs in Columbia where the liner was the right diameter but cut two feet short, leaving a dead space that filled with creosote and eventually ignited.

We are not affiliated with Copperfield. We are an independent service company that sources compatible components and installs them to manufacturer clearance and NFPA 211 standards. If you have the model number or even just the fireplace make, call (443) 899-1174 and we will tell you whether we have the diameter in the warehouse or on the truck.
